Born in México, D.F. in 1972, Mauricio began studying yoga in 1997, focusing on the inner explorative nature of its philosophy and meditation practices. The practice of Hatha Yoga and its meditative component helped him heal from the effects of an ignored childhood coccyx injury, which caused pain and restricted mobility in the lumbar region. While working as a graphic designer and in advertising for 10 years, in 2003 he discovered the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system as a form of moving meditation. After several years of sustained practice and studies, Mauricio realised that Ashtanga Yoga should be learned as a life long practice, rather than racing after postures or series. Mauricio believes that all difficult asanas and vinyasas are just there to remind us of the love and calmness that each of us holds within, in spite of external conditions. Since 2005 Mauricio has been travelling to Mysore, India, every year in order to continue his studies at KPJAYI. (K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute). As of 2007, he has been been traveling to various countries, such as Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, México, Costa Rica, Chile, Perú and Philippines, in order to teach Mysore Programs and share the practice with students the world over.
